Job Description:
We are a ‘start-up’ NGO and are looking for a right to water coordinator who will manage, implement, and oversee the setting up of a community-based ICT monitoring system for the Mncwasa Water Scheme across approximately 40 villages. This will also involve activating, facilitating and managing engagement and the participation of local government, the traditional leaders, councillors, and community members. This person will also build the capacity of community members to participate in existing democratic processes and become leaders and activists for the right to water.
Job Responsibilities:
- Communicate data to responsible stakeholders (ADM).
- Conduct local government related research.
- Manage, analyse, and report on data collected by the community water ambassadors.
- Coordinate, implement and oversee the implementation of a community-monitoring ICT system for the Mncwasa Water Scheme.
- Tracking of project implementation, including weekly and monthly reports.
- Stakeholder management and engagement.
- Cultivate partnerships.
- Oversee and keep motivated a team of community water ambassadors (volunteers).
- Organise and facilitate training of community members to participate in local government planning processes.
Job Requirements:
- Effective oral and written communication skills in isiXhosa and English.
- Passionate about our work and willing to help grow and build a social justice organisation in a remote rural area.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel.
- Have a strong work ethic that requires minimal direction. Works well under pressure.
Qualification & Experience:
- Experience in community training and facilitation.
- Local government experience is preferable.
- Experience in data collection, analysis and data management and GIS experience.
- At least 2 years working experience.
- A relevant degree/diploma in development studies, urban studies, town planning or engineering.
- Water project experience is preferable.
