Job Description:
This position falls under the Patient Care Service Line- Community Living Center, located at the Cheyenne VA Medical Center. The Nursing Assistant (NA) is an integral part of a team of nurses that provide care to long term care residents, end of life hospice veterans, and veterans with specific rehabilitation or skilled needs for a limited time frame. The CLC nurse aide is responsible for maintaining unit specific competencies to ensure safety and quality of care is provided to residents.
Job Responsibilities:
- Works within a collaborative team to achieve veteran centric goals and provides feedback regarding the patient’s progress toward goals.
- Treats self, patients, family and others with respect and dignity is able to effectively intervene when there is a difficult situation.
- Completes required documentation timely and accurately with minimal or no guidance; able to assist other staff members with required documentation.
- Identifies environmental safety hazards and takes immediate action to resolve issues within a specific scope.
- Provides 1:1 observation for veterans who are safety risks (within one arm’s length of the patient), to include but not limited to: Having Suicidal/Homicidal ldeations, High Fall Risk,
- Veteran pulling on or trying to remove, essential medical equipment, Impulsive behavior that may lead to injury.
- Listens to patient and family needs/concerns. Reports them to the charge nurse and will take immediate action within specific scope to meet the patient’s needs/concerns.
- Adheres to the Cheyenne VAMC Time and Leave Policy and assists others with entering leave requests.
- Performs specific patient related tasks independently and provides assistance to co-workers.
- Assists patient with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as personal hygiene and daily nourishment independently and provides assistance to co-workers.
Job Requirements:
- Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process
- Must be proficient in written and spoken English
- Ability to observe patients/residents’ or resident’s physical or emotional status and refer deviations and/or problems to supervisor in a timely manner.
- Ability to provide a range of patient/resident care and contribute to the completion of the nurse care plan and recovery of patients/residents.

- One year above high school with courses related to the Nursing Assistant occupation.
- Completion of an intensive, specialized, occupation-related course of study of less than one year as a nursing assistant may also meet in full the experience requirements for GS-3.
