Job Description:
The role of a Product Technologist International is to manage the delivery of all aspects of the Sainsbury’s Brand product and technical plans for the products being sold to other retail customers with emphasis on quality, safety, legality and supplier performance. Product Technologist International work with the retail customers, suppliers, our Sainsbury’s brand support team, product developers, product technologists, trading and supply chainteams to deliver great quality products that are consistently produced to the correct quality standard and are fresh, tasty, healthy and safe meeting all Sainsbury’s standards and policies. Product Technologist drive the quality and technical agenda for their wholesale area, which includes responsibility for delivering Net Zero targets and keeping the customer at the heart of all decisions.
Job Responsibilities:
- Manage product changes to ensure technically approved before sale to our retail customers through effective communication with all interested parties.
- Manage New Line Approval forms via Suppliers to meet customer requirements
- Co-ordinate the application of appropriate health certificates and vet inspections to enable export to overseas retail customers
- Support the creation and approval of any marketing and training material required by retail customers to promote Sainsbury’s brand in their market, in conjunction with Sainsbury’s marketing teams.
- Creates complaint reduction action plans with all suppliers and Category Technologist with Product Technical Manager support. Delivers on complaints reduction plans.
- Holds and maintains accurate product information for all Sainsbury’s brand products ensuring the quality and safety standards are clearly defined and adhered to.
- Manages the technical administration of the documentation required for our retail customers.Being right first time and in agreed format exceeding the customer’s expectation.Enabling the customer to assess the product and ensure safe and legal in country of sale
- Manages the master sku list for all customers to ensure up to date and only technically approved products can be purchased by a retail customer.
- Monitor all withdrawals / recalls on a daily basis and take appropriate action if a “wholesale” product was implicated.
- Coordinate any technical safety approval requirements to ensure products are approved for safety ahead of any sale to customers.
- Completes detailed investigations on product issues to identifies the root cause of the issue and implement clear action plans.
- Deliver small scale projects to drive the profitability, quality and Net Zero agenda for the biggest selling lines within the International “wholesale” area.
- Manages projects to improve product quality and or/implement new technologies for wholesale supply.
- Implements supply base strategy in Wholesale area and recommends suppliers for new product opportunities.
- Proactively manages and engages with the supply base to drive the technical agenda.
- Manages and improves technical performance of products with clear direction provided by Product Technical Manager and liaison with Category Technologist.
- Manages safety, legality and quality of Sainsbury’s brand products ensuring brand reputation and due diligence is maintained.
- Is a custodian of quality and Sainsbury’s Brand reputation by adopting a zero tolerance approach to all failings of quality, safety, legality and brand reputation.
- Manages projects to improve product quality with direction.
- Able to implement quality standards competently and challenge the unacceptable.
Job Requirements:
- Degree or equivalent in relevant food, product related or relevant scientific subject
- Good judgement, drive and influence and a clear targeted personal development plan to enhance these areas
- Excellent self awareness and communication
- Deliver technical excellence and attention to detail in all tasks
- Commercial awareness
- Computer literate
- Effective planning and prioritisation
- Delivery of KPI’s and Sainsbury’s brand strategy targets as defined within personal development review targets. Targets completed within set
- timescales for the International / Wholesale area
- Understanding of technical and manufacturing experience including HACCP and BRC
- Be a role model for accuracy and right first time in all aspects of technical data for our customers
- Effective due diligence management
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a technical role either in the supply base or at a retailer
