Job Description:

As someone who will be part of reshaping the way we source, managing and distributing product data will be a fundamental part of how we transform our business and delight our colleagues and customers.

With the support of the Senior Product Manager you will be responsible for managing product backlogs, and working with business stakeholders on their priorities. You will bridge the technical and business worlds, building strong relationships across the relevant business, UX and Tech teams.

You’ll have good functional knowledge of Sainsbury’s Commercial and the transformation programme you work within. You will bring a challenger mind-set, always seeking new and improved ways of tackling issues and opportunities. You will represent the business for your assigned products, and as such will become the ‘go-to’ expert for those products.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Adopt an Agile approach/Lean principles wherever appropriate to deliver initiatives at the desired pace.
  • Manage the product backlog and work alongside our Tech teams to ensure delivery of sprints, and ultimately delivery our product roadmap and vision.
  • Role model positive, collaborative and agile ways of working with all areas of the business with clear thinking and strong communication.
  • Support the wider execution of our Commercial and Tech strategies and principles.
  • Bring a new perspective to initiatives, challenge the status quo and identify opportunities to do things better/cheaper/faster.
  • Launch new products and enhance and support existing products, working with the Senior Product Manager and Support teams to ensure all deployment activities are fully covered and tested between the technical and business colleagues.
  • Provide product knowledge and insight for colleagues across our business, and to work with them to fully understand the business needs and requirements.
  • Develop an in-depth understanding of the processes and systems utilised across the whole Commercial function.
  • Be aware of competitor developments and industry best practice to help inform our product roadmaps and vision.
  • Champion and drive the vision, strategy and roadmap for your team with clear understanding of their alignment to our technology strategy, the business vision and divisional goals across the group.
  • Develop strong working relationships across all of the departments we work both across the commercial and broader functions at all levels.

Job Requirements:

  • Knowledge of Change management frameworks and Lean methodologies.
  • Strong impact and influence skills with the ability to influence upwards and downwards. Demonstrate an aptitude to frame and contextualise facts in a way that is relevant to the audience.
  • Strong facilitation skills.
  • Relevant experience matters most!
  • Knowledge and experience of product management and backlog management, with a working understanding of both Agile and Waterfall methodologies.
  • Able to demonstrate great prioritisation skills, ensuring that the product roadmap and backlog aligns correctly to the business requirements, and overall Sainsbury’s Commercial and corporate goals.
