Job Description:

The Charge Sister will be responsible for co-ordinating improved quality nursing care by ensuring compliance to professional and ethical practice, Nursing act, 2005 (Act no.33 of 2005), all Healthcare legislation, Basic Conditions of Employment, Policies and Procedures and Core Standards. The Charge Sister will also be responsible for monitoring and ensuring that nursing care and service delivery is implemented and practiced within a multidisciplinary quality assurance team

Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage nursing hours /acuities and skill mix in such a way as to ensure cost effective, safe quality nursing care: permanent and temp nursing staff
  • Ensure equipment need analysis is done for budget/capital expenditure purposes – new medical equipment, preventative services and repair and maintenance within legal specifications
  • Ensure correct billing, stock management, month end, stock take and purchasing according to standard product list and minimum and maximum stock levels
  • Report all accidents and incidents to Line Manager / Safety Representatives
  • Ensure compliance with protocols, policies and Acts
  • Ensure that all equipment is in working order and properly maintained
  • Control of asset register

Job Requirements:

  • Ability to work well under pressure and to maintain effectiveness during changing conditions
  • Ability to work effectively and co-operatively with others by establishing and maintaining good working relationships
  • Excellent planning, organising and control / follow-up skills are essential
  • Must be customer care oriented
  • Computer Literate
  • Knowledge of medical aids
  • Good verbal and interpersonal communication skills

Qualification & Experience:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent NQF 4 certificate
  • A relevant nursing qualification (Diploma in General Nursing/ B Cur Degree)
  • Registration with SANC as a Registered Nurse
  • Compliance with the SANC code for a Registered Nurse and all applicable health care legislations
  • 2 or more years managerial experience in a private hospital / clinic setting
  • Experience in clinical leadership
