Job Description:
CapeNature seek to appoint a dynamic individual to undertake reserve operations and assist with the natural resource management programme and integrated catchment management. The candidate will be responsible for ecological data collection and data management, monitoring, quality assurance, infrastructure and equipment maintenance, environmental education, and law enforcement and compliance monitoring at the Cederberg Wilderness Area, Kliphuis section. The Field Ranger will also be responsible for supervisory and administrative tasks and will report to the Conservation Manager (On Reserve).
Job Responsibilities:
- Transport of staff/equipment
- Assist with firefighting operations
- Implement Occupational Health and Safety policies and guidelines
- Assist with environmental education
- Do Environmental Control Officer duties
- Carry out minor repairs and maintenance of infrastructure
- Assist with ecological data collections and monitoring
- Assist with maintenance and service of facilities
- Infrastructure and Equipment
- Assist with maintenance of all infrastructure
- Assist with invasive alien plant control
- Provide support to Conservation Services during law enforcement operations
- Assist with search and rescue operations
- Carry out law enforcement patrols
- Maintain vehicles and equipment
- Perform Legal Compliance Quality Assurance and OHS
- Implement Eco-Matrix and Integrated Catchment Management
Job Requirements:
- Computer literacy plus advanced proficiency in MS-Office
- Use of QGIS software
- Good project planning and organizing skills
- No criminal record
- Ability to thrive in a fast paced environment managing multiple projects and tight deadlines
- Ability to function independently and within a team
- Physical ability to perform field ranger duties
- Strong analytical, strategic and creative problem solving skills
- Willingness to work weekend shifts and irregular hours
Qualification & Experience:
- Grade 12 or a National Diploma in Nature Conservation
- A valid code B driver’s license (EC license &PDP is an added advantage)
