Westjet Job Opportunities – FP&A Financial Analyst

Job Description:

This role will support WestJet’s global growth and labour strategy through economic, financial and strategic analysis for labour negotiations and ongoing support for the WestJet Labour Relations team. Reporting and supporting to the FP&A Finance Manager, this analyst will support the labour negotiations from the derivation of the bargaining mandate, dynamic financial modelling as well as support function post-negotiation to budget, forecast and analyze agreement impacts. During breaks and in between labour negotiations, this analyst will provide ad hoc support on other decision driving analysis on the team, such as management of departmental capital, fleet management, flight profitability and other FP&A areas.

Job Responsibilities:

• Key creator and owner of the financial model that supports the bargaining, arbitration, mediation, etc. processes by providing flexible and accurate financial and strategic insights to the Labour Relations team as well as to the executive management team
• Prepare key powerpoint presentations to capture key negotiation elements and insights for Senior Leadership and the Board
• Obtain, develop and continually maintain an in-depth understanding of WestJet’s various collective bargaining and employee agreements, including both compensation rates, scheduling and work rules
• Develop and maintain financial costing models to support the Labour Relations team in its bargaining efforts as well as to provide forecasting and analytical information to Operations
• FP&A functions and the Operations Senior Leadership Team
• Aids in the completion of month-end, budgeting and forecasting activities as they relate to WestJet’s union-represented employees and/or employee associations
• Assist in other FP&A analysis and functions as required

Job Requirements:

• Strong analytical, financial analysis and communication (written and oral) skills with a broad set of end users
• Completion of a post-secondary degree in Commerce or Business Administration
• Completion of a post graduate degree or designation (e.g. CFA, MBA, CPA) considered an asset
• Experience working in cross-functional teams in large organizations is preferred
• Ability to thrive in high pressure and fast paced work environment; flexible to change and uncertainty
• 3+ years of progressive work experience particularly in the areas of financial modelling and analysis
• Previous experience with labour relations is an asset
