Job Description:

The core mandate of the CS is to empower UCT students to curate their own Career Development Journey by acquiring a set of professional skills, knowledge and personal attributes that make them more likely to be satisfied with and be successful in whatever professional pathway they pursue. We seek to appoint a dynamic professional who will contribute both experience and fresh ideas to this important work.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Design and delivery of high quality, effective and innovative Career Development, Information services and engagement measures attuned to students and demonstrating insight into the South African and International labour market and employment trends
  • As a member of the senior management team, excellent contribution to the strategic leadership of the Careers Service
  • Ongoing strategic consideration of and development of diverse Faculty and stakeholder relationships
  • Ongoing personal professional growth and development
  • Strategic planning aligned with Departmental, Faculty and Institutional priorities
  • Excellent, accountable leadership of the team of Career Development Consultants

Job Requirements:

  • Knowledge of global Career Development practice, contemporary World of Work and Labour market trends
  • Demonstrated ability to conceptualise and project manage the delivery of a range of Career Development services, Career education information and learning materials for hybrid student engagement at scale
  • Experience of collaborating with a range of stakeholders and building relationships at a strategic level
  • NQF 7 in Higher Education Development, Industrial Psychology or equivalent
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly under pressure
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills for physical and virtual platforms and diverse audiences
  • Familiarity with Business communication, customer relationship and learning management tools and systems
  • At least 8 years’ experience in a senior Career Development role including 5 years line managing a team of 3 or more people in the SA Higher Education sector
  • The capacity to think strategically, build relationships and build networks, strong organizing skills, selfmanagement and strong project planning skills
