Job Description:

Reporting to the Manager, Social Media & Communications, the Social Media Specialist delivers content on Seneca’s core social media channels maintained by the Communications department. Working with the Manager, the Specialist helps inform and implement Seneca’s social media strategy and maintains the social media content calendar for the department. The incumbent creates schedules and posts content daily on Seneca’s core social media channels including Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn and Instagram. This includes creating original multimedia posts and modifying and leveraging posts from other sources, with the goals to inform and engage Seneca’s internal and external social media audiences. Additionally, the Specialist edits and approves content submitted by various representatives across Seneca, including faculty, support staff and administrators for the purposes of recruitment, information sharing and community building.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Engages with Seneca stakeholders to identify content trends, opportunities
  • Identifies and engages topic influencers and brand advocates within the Seneca community e.g, alumni, industry partners, government
  • Edits and approves content from internal stakeholders.
  • Develops contests and promotions, as appropriate, for recruitment, information sharing, promotional and community building purposes
  • Coordinates and develops content for Seneca’s core media channels
  • Supports Seneca’s broader communication strategy with social media initiatives based on the Strategic Plan, current institutional objectives and community feedback

Job Requirements:

  • Well-developed interpersonal, customer service and communication skills (verbal and written) to interact effectively with multi-cultural/racial/able students, staff and the public are required.
  • A valid Ontario Driver’s License and use of a dependable automobile are required due to the extensive travel required by the position.
  • Experience with various technologies used for social media monitoring, analytics and Customer Relationship Management (CRM)
  • Experience with issues management/crisis communications; photography, video and graphic design experience are required
  • Must be able to work overtime for event participation and ad-hoc social media support in emergency/issues management situations, which may take place in the morning, evening and on weekends
  • Experience writing and editing for social media, with a keen eye for detail and accuracy
