Job Description:

Sappi Ngodwana Mill requires a Maintenance Manager to be Accountable for the safe performance of cost-effective maintenance through strategy development and compliance to ensure long term plant availability and reliability, thereby contributing to the overall equipment effectiveness.

Job Responsibilities:

• Accountable for the identification and initiation of continuous improvement interventions.
• Accountable for the identification, communication, and mitigation of risks
• Responsible for growing the young talent pipeline for future requirements through mentoring and coaching.
• Ensure that the relevant sections and contractors comply in all respects with the relevant regulations by implementing the necessary control measures and rectifying inadequacies and non-conformances.
• Accountable and responsible for long term service Contract Management
• Maintain effective industrial relations and practices.
• Accountable for overall effective cost management for the relevant area of responsibility.
• Accountable for the commissioning of new and decommissioning of old equipment.
• Accountable to ensure BBS observations are conducted according to mill objectives.
• Manage overall resource utilisation in the area of responsibility.
• Accountable for the development and maintenance of the relevant Mill documents and standards.
• Accountable for a safe and healthy work environment through compliance to legal regulations and Mill Procedures (e.g. OHS Act, ISO systems) in the area of responsibility.
• Accountable for resolution of reliability risks, improvement programs and implementation for the areas of responsibility.
• Accountable for contract negotiations for major engineering contracts. Determine when engineering services should be done internally and when it should be outsourced.
• Manage and maintain all engineering installations in the areas of responsibility.
• Accountable for effective shut planning and execution.
• Responsible to ensure a high level of good housekeeping in the section at all times in line with 5S Standards.
• Accountable for selected Capex cost control and effectiveness (as per Capex application)
• Accountable to identify, motivate and justify capital expenditure projects for new plant or machinery or upgrades of existing ones. Oversee the development of equipment and process specifications. Approve changes in the design of the plant.
• Participate in developing and executing the mill’s Maintenance Strategy and Improvement Strategy to ensure equipment availability, reliability and efficiency, as well as continuous improvement.

Job Requirements:

• 4 Year B degree in Engineering, National Higher Diploma in Engineering or equivalent with Recognition of Previous Learning or experience
• Government Certificate of Competency (Factories)
• Relevant management qualification
• Registration as a professional engineer would be advantageous
• Relevant experience 8-10 years
• Pulp and Paper Industry experience advantageous
