Job Description:
Netflix is the world’s leading streaming entertainment service with over 200 million paid memberships in over 190 countries enjoying TV series, documentaries and feature films across a wide variety of genres and languages. Members can watch as much as they want, anytime, anywhere, on any internet-connected screen. Members can play, pause and resume watching, all without commercials or commitments. Netflix is seeking a Director of Public Policy to lead Netflix’s Federal and State policy engagement efforts in the United States. Netflix’s Public Policy team seeks to advance the company’s strategic goals by proactively managing the company’s relationships with government officials and advising on regulatory matters across a wide range of issues that affect Netflix’s business. The Director of Public Policy for US Federal and State Affairs will be a key leader on this team. They will work with internal partners throughout the business to help identify and define the company’s public policy objectives in the U.S., and will develop and manage relationships with external stakeholders in order to further those objectives.
The role may be based either in Los Angeles or Washington, D.C. (with regular travel between both locations) and reports to the Vice President of Public Policy, UCAN. The role will perform duties that will require registration as a lobbyist in the U.S.
Job Responsibilities:
- Monitoring and advancing legislative and regulatory initiatives in the U.S.
- Developing relationships with government stakeholders at the Federal and State level in the U.S.
- Working with business partners to understand all aspects of Netflix’s business and its needs, as well as to advise on the impact of public policy developments on the business
- Identifying business developments with global impact to other members of the policy team
- Managing external consultants and relationships with membership organizations
- Building coalitions with peer companies and third-party organizations
Job Requirements:
The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree and at least 15 years of legal, public policy, and advocacy experience. The successful candidate will also have prior experience navigating regulatory and legislative bodies. Other relevant experience may include working in government, the private sector, a trade association, a law firm, or a policy organization. Graduate training in a related discipline and/or a legal degree is also desirable.
