Job Description:

The Automation Controls Specialist I serves as technical support to ensure a safe environment, producing safe-high quality products in a timely manner, at the best cost possible; responsible for installing, maintaining, testing, and troubleshooting of instrumentation, controls, and electrical / electronic systems at the facility.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Conducts equipment and system tagging according to company and plant rules and regulations
  • Troubleshoots and performs maintenance on AC and DC power equipment, process controls, programmable logic controls (PLC), and monitoring equipment
  • Identifies root causes, using precision measuring and testing instruments
  • manufacturer’s instructions, and engineering specifications
  • Follows safe working practices at all times
  • Identifies safety hazards and recommends solutions
  • Maintains the manufacturing process and equipment in optimum condition
  • Supports activities that integrate techniques focused on achieving high levels of overall process effectiveness
  • Uses knowledge and skills to pursue continuous improvements to drive shrink initiatives
  • Follows environmental compliance work practices
  • Performs equipment safety inspections as required, and documents results as appropriate
  • Ensures operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements on engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines; following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals,
  • Calibrates, tests, maintains, troubleshoots, and installs all plant instrumentation, control systems, and electrical equipment
  • Performs basic maintenance on motor control centers, motor operated valves, programmable logic controllers, excitation equipment, human machine interface devices, and motors

Job Requirements:

  • Working knowledge of either electrical or mechanical repairs, and conducting basic equipment repairs for building and process equipment
  • Knowledge of instrumentation, controls, low- / medium- / high-voltage switchgear, transformers, programmable logic controllers, protective relays and motor control centers
  • Associates degree, or comparable experience in a maintenance environment
  • 0-2 years of experience at basic levels in multiple disciplines
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of all aspects of the plant equipment maintenance operation, including equipment troubleshooting, electrical, refrigeration, machine shop operation, welding, brazing soldering
  • Industrial plant, mechanical, electrical aptitude and abilities
  • Ability to disassemble process equipment, repair or improve, and reassemble for use
  • Ability to use voltmeters, ammeters, meggers, calipers, dial indicators, refrigeration test instrument micrometers, electronic test equipment including programmers, machinist equipment and tools, hydraulic test equipment, hand/industrial power tools
