Job Description:

To assume duties and responsibilities of a safety officer in terms of regulation 2.19.1 of Mine Health and Safety Act. To coordinate and implement legal requirements and safety initiatives. To conduct and facilitate incident investigations.

Job Responsibilities:

• Adhere to relevant legislation and Business Unit (BU) requirements
• Ensure customer satisfaction is maintained within the service management targets
• Respond to customer queries as per Service Level Agreements (SLA’s)
• Compile statistical and legal monthly reports
• Understand customer needs and provide solutions
• Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) Representative empowerment (mentoring and coaching)
• Maintain good relationships with customers
• Implement and maintain an audit structure
• Address all customer complaints as per service management policies and guidelines
• Manage risk by assessing liabilities, reporting and monitoring standards and attending to problems
• Influence BU safety culture through Visible Felt Leadership (VFL)
• Create awareness, conduct Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA) interventions and address unsafe practices in timeous manner
• Conduct internal and external safety and environmental audits
• Ensure adherence to International Organisational Standards (ISO)/Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) requirements (Management of Change)
• Continuously endeavour to improve service delivery

Job Requirements:

• B Tech (Relevant) (Recommended/Desirable)
• Psychometric Assessment (Essential/Minimum to be conducted by Exxaro)
• Certificate of Fitness (Essential/Minimum to be conducted by Exxaro)
• 3-5 years Relevant safety operations within a heavy industry, mining and production environment (Essential/Minimum) Operational
• N Dip: Safety Management (Essential/Minimum)
• MHS Act Reg 2.17.1 (Safety Officer) (Essential/Minimum)
• Certificate First Line Management (Essential/Minimum)
