CSX Railroad Jobs – Welder

Job Description:

Employees must work towards qualifying to complete repairs and maintain all aspects of rail including frogs, rail-ends, turn-outs, switch points, and glue joints using arc, propane or thermite welding processes. Employees must be able to meet and comply with the manufacturer’s weight limitation safety rating and recommendations for any equipment associated with performing their duties, including the 300 lb. safety rating for ladders (both portable and affixed) and fall arrest equipment.

Job Responsibilities:

• Perform grinding tasks using power and hand tools
• Assist other employees in changing out rail
• Monitor and maintain flow of gases, light torch and adjust gas mixture and pressure to obtain desired flame when making field welds
• Apply filler rod to molten area to form weld
• Ensure compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety, operations and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA)
• Inspect all equipment daily to check for leaky cylinders, hoses or connections
• Replace rail anchors, drive spikes and tamp ballast as needed
• Clean work pieces to remove impurities, such as slag, rust and grease

Job Requirements:

• Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
• Experience in Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) and/or Flux Core Arc Welding (FCAW)
• High School Diploma/GED
• 18 years of age or older
• Valid Driver’s License
• Ability to gain a CDL within 60 days of hire date
• One or more years of outside work exp (e.g. construction, heavy equipment op, farming,etc)
• Welding certification
