Job Description:

The Montana/Dakotas BLM is seeking qualified candidates interested in serving as a Safety and Occupational Health Manager in the Montana/Dakotas State Office, Division of Support Services. The duty station will be the selectee’s current location within the Montana/Dakotas.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Facilitating safety program elements of management?s commitment, employee involvement, hazard identification and control of hazard exposures, and supervisory and employee training.
  • The incumbent serves as the principal Safety and Occupational Health Manager to the State Director and all managers and supervisors.
  • Developing, organizing, and administering a statewide safety and occupational health program.
  • Developing a comprehensive program for public safety on all Montana/Dakotas BLM lands encompassing a wide variety of uses (recreation, mining, oil and gas exploration, hunting and fishing, rangeland activities, abandoned mine lands, etc.).
  • Providing guidance and direction in implementing effective safety and occupational health programs and to identify and eliminate unsafe working conditions and practices involving hazardous equipment in the district and field offices.
  • Providing safety guidance and direction for continuity of operations, and occupational health program efforts to reduce employee injury, occupational illness, property damage, and public safety.
  • This position is responsible for performing a vast set of duties including, but not limited to, the following:
  • Developing operational and functional policies and guidelines based on accident trend analyses, safety and health standards, inspections, emerging problems or trends, and results of serious accident investigations.

Job Requirements:

  • Experience in or related to safety and occupational health; organizing, evaluating, and managing a comprehensive safety or occupational health program
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Direct Deposit Required.
  • Developing and recommending safety and occupational health policy to higher levels of management
  • Applying safety and occupational health laws, regulations, principles, theories, practices, and procedures to advise on or resolve technical matters dealing with occupational safety and health requirements
  • Developing safety and occupational health standards, regulations, practices, and procedures to eliminate or control potential hazards; inspecting or surveying workplaces, processes, products, or other systems for compliance with established safety and occupational health policies or standards and to identify potential new hazards
  • Training employees, supervisors, managers, or other safety and occupational health personnel in safety or occupational health subjects.
